Sister Charlotte McGrath, R.S.M., the oldest member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas Mid-Atlantic Community, died May 5 at Maria Regina Residence, Brentwood, L.I. She was 103.

Formerly known as Sister Mary Bartholomew, she was a member of the Sisters of Mercy for 84 years. Born in Sacred Heart parish, Fort Greene, she attended St. Jerome School, East Flatbush, and Mercy Juniorate H.S., Fort Greene.

She entered the Sisters of Mercy Novitiate in Syosset in 1933, and professed her final vows in September, 1938.

She attended Fordham University, and received a master’s degree in library sciences from St. John’s University.

She taught in St. Patrick’s, Kent Ave., Fort Greene, 1935, and 1943-44; St. Patrick’s, Bay Shore, L.I., 1935-41; St. Gerard Majella, Hollis, 1941-43; St. Gregory, Crown Heights, 1944-45; Sacred Heart, Fort Greene, 1945-47; and Holy Innocents, East Flatbush, 1947-50.

She became the librarian in Bishop McDonnell H.S., Crown Heights, 1950-68; Holy Trinity Diocesan H.S., Hicksville, L.I., 1968-72; St. Francis College, Brooklyn Heights, 1972-78, and St. Edmund H.S., Sheepshead Bay, 1978-84.

From 1984 until 1989, she served as a receptionist at Bishop Loughlin H.S., Fort Greene, and finally as a pre-school teacher at Our Lady of Grace, Gravesend, 1989-91.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in the Sisters of Mercy Convent, Whitestone.

Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Flatbush.
