Sister Catherine Anita Kelly, C.S.J., a Sister of St. Joseph, Brentwood, L.I., for 74 years, died Jan. 1.

She entered the congregation in 1941 from St. Pius V parish, Jamaica. She earned her bachelor’s degree in math from Manhattan College, 1954, and received several
grants in math from colleges and universities, including Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Penn., and St. Francis College, Brooklyn Heights.

A teacher for 54 years, her ministries included: St. James, Downtown Brooklyn, 1943-45; Holy Name, Park Slope, 1945-46; St. Martin of Tours, Bushwick, 1946-51; Our Lady of Victory, Floral Park, L.I., 1951-53; Transfiguration, Williamsburg, 1953- 54; St. Ann, Flushing, 1954-58; Colegio San Conrado, Ponce, Puerto Rico, 1958-62; St. Angela Hall Academy H.S., Clinton Hill, 1962-70; St. Pascal Baylon H.S., St. Albans, 1970-73; and St. John of God, Central Islip, L.I., 1976-77.

In 1977, she moved to Brentwood, where she spent two years at the Brentwood Education Center before ministering at the Academy of St. Joseph H.S., 1979-97.

Her remaining years in ministry were spent as a tutor in the Brentwood Education Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Jan. 6, in Sacred Heart Chapel, Brentwood. Interment followed in Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood.
