Sister Alice Marie Carey, O.P., was a life-long educator

OBIT_SrACareyOPSister Alice Marie Carey, O.P., a Sister of St. Dominic, Amityville, L.I., died June 30. She was 75.

Born Charlotte in Greenport, L.I., she grew up in St. John the Evangelist parish, Riverhead, L.I., where she met the Dominican Sisters of Amityville. She entered the congregation on Sept. 6, 1959, receiving the habit and her religious name on Aug. 5, 1960.

Her ministry in elementary education included teaching assignments at St. Martin of Tours, Amityville; Fourteen Holy Martyrs, Bushwick; St. Ignatius, Hicksville, L.I.; Little Flower, Montauk, L.I.; St. Joseph, Kings Park, L.I.; Corpus Christi, Woodside; Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Lindenhurst, L.I.; and St. Hugh of Lincoln, Huntington Station, L.I.

From 1992 to 2003, she taught in Trinity Regional School, East Northport, L.I, and then ministered in Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Syosset, L.I., 2003-04. In 2006, she began conducting the Secretariat in Amityville.

Interment was in the Sisters cemetery, Amityville.
