Only In Print: Hospital Chaplain Helps Kick Off NYC Marathon With a Bang

STATEN ISLAND — It is appropriate to tell Father Bryan Carney, “Thank you for your service,” because he spent 23 years in the U.S. Air Force, but he still wears a military uniform, and with great pride.

Father Carney, a chaplain at Flushing Hospital Medical Center, is also Lt. Col. Chaplain Carney for the Veteran Corps of Artillery, a state-recognized militia unit that performs ceremonial duties at public events like the 50th New York City Marathon on Nov. 7 …
