High School Supplement 2016

On the Path to Catholic High School

hs-supplement-cover-10-22-16Eighth-grade students in New York City are just two weeks away from taking the Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools (TACHS) and choosing the high schools they wish to attend next year.

Students who have signed up to take the exam on Nov. 5 in the Brooklyn Diocese or on Nov. 4 in the Archdiocese of New York will be asked to fill in their prospective schools’ TACHS numbers on their examination sheets. Parents should sign an admit form with the high school choices before the start of the exam.

Finalizing Choices

In order to help students and their families make their final decisions, The Tablet has invited local Catholic high schools to participate in this special supplement and share what makes their schools unique. Fifteen high schools in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan are highlighted in the following pages. TACHS codes and other useful information can be found throughout this insert.

Keep in mind that on the day of the exam, the test will be administered at each testing site at 9 a.m. sharp. Students should try to get a good night’s sleep, eat breakfast and be at the test site by 8:15 a.m.

The test ends around 12 p.m. The actual test time is approximately two hours with time for directions and pauses between subtests. There are no official breaks.

Students must bring two sharpened No. 2 pencils with erasers, their Admit Card and identification (Student ID or Library card) to the testing site. Electronic or battery-operated devices (calculators, watches or cells phones), scratch paper, food and beverages are not allowed.
