Sister Mary Aneta Gics, S.S.N.D., a Catholic school educator who later ministered in pastoral care and administrative support, died June 14 of complications from a stroke at Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton, Conn. She was 86 years old and had been a professed member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame for 66 years. 
Born as Clare Anne Gics in Brooklyn, she attended Holy Family (Slovak) School and St. Alphonsus School, both Greenpoint, before enrolling in the Notre Dame Juniorate in Fort Lee, N.J.
She taught at St. Matthias, Ridgewood, 1967-69. 
In 1973, her ministry shifted to administrative support and pastoral care. She studied at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn for one year before beginning a ministry in pastoral care, in Stamford, Conn., and then at Lourdes Health Care Center, adjacent to Villa Notre Dame, home to retired S.S.N.D.s in Wilton.
After assisting in the development office at Villa Notre Dame, 1989-94, she moved to Massachusetts, where she served in administrative positions.
In 2004, she moved to Indiantown, Fla., where she volunteered with mostly immigrant children. In 2010, she retired to prayer in presence at Villa Notre Dame. She moved to Lourdes Health Care Center in 2012.
She is survived by her sister Cecilia Force of Brooklyn and her brother Joseph Gics of the Bronx.
