Obituary – Sister Elaine Mary Fahey, G.N.S.H.

Sister Elaine Mary Fahey, G.N.S.H., 70, in her 50th year as a Grey Nun of the Sacred Heart, died March 29, at Lafayette Redeemer, Philadelphia, Pa.

Born in Jackson Heights, she attended St. Joan of Arc School and St. Vincent Ferrer H.S., Manhattan. She worked for the NY Telephone Company for four years prior to entering religious life. She earned a bache- lor’s degree in education (summa cum laude) and a master’s in education/early childhood from Temple University.

A founding member of Marguerite’s Place in Nashua, N.H., she was director of day care there for 16 years. Prior to that time, she served in the Philadelphia area for 20 years.

In 2008, she responded to a need of the Congregation and was appointed coor- dinator/facilitator of the Motherhouse Retirement Community in Yardley, Pa. Health issues necessitated her resignation of that responsibility and she moved to Lafayette Redeemer in 2015 where she resided until the time of her death from complications of ALS.

She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Malanga.
