Sister Teresa María de Jesús (Dolores Escolar Muñoz) entered into eternal life on Aug. 11 at age 90.

She was born Dec. 10, 1935, in Gomezserracín, Segovia, Spain, to the late María Muñoz and Ezequiel Escolar. They had seven children. Sister Teresa’s four sisters (Emiliana, Graciana, Paula, Julia) were also religious in different congregations. Her brothers married and raised families.

Sister Teresa entered the Little Sisters of the Poor and professed her religious vows on June 8, 1955. She was a missionary and, for over 70 years, served the elderly and poor in homes throughout the United States, but mostly in Brooklyn.

Sister Teresa was a dietary manager and provided direct care to residents. She was a founding Little Sister at its mission home in Gallup, New Mexico, and was well known for the influence she had on the novices while managing the kitchen in St. Ann’s Novitiate.

She had been in residence at the Little Sisters of the Poor’s Newark, Delaware, home since February 2019.

She is survived by her brother Javier Escolar Muñoz and five of her seven nieces and nephews, plus great-nieces and great-nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Aug. 25 at Little Sisters of the Poor in Newark, Delaware, followed by burial at Cathedral Cemetery.
