Sister Eleanor H. Quaderer, S.C., formerly Sister Eleanor Frederick, a Sister of Charity-Halifax for 63 years, died on Sept. 3 at age 86. She is survived by her brother, Fred, sister-in-law Joan and all her Sisters in the community.

Sister Eleanor was missioned at Our Lady of the Cenacle School, Richmond Hill, from 1973-80 as a fourth grade teacher and parish bookkeeper.

Sister Eleanor lived in Richmond Hill and Resurrection-Ascension Convent, Rego Park, while serving as a financial manager assistant to the Catholic Center, St. Gregory the Great Parish and the Ursuline Sisters in Jamaica and the assistant to the provincial treasurer for the Sisters of Charity, Halifax.

Sister Eleanor was also missioned in Quebec City and Montreal, as well as the Diocese of Rockville Centre.

Sister Eleanor, who entered religious life from Saint Barnabas Parish, Bellmore, in 1957, lived at Saint Barnabas Convent from August 2008 until her death in September 2021. Thus, her life began and ended at Saint Barnabas Parish.

A funeral Mass was held on Sept. 9, 2021 at St. Barnabas Parish. Interment was at Saint John’s Cemetery, Middle Village, N.Y.


Deacon Gregory D. Dixon died on Sept. 20 in Brooklyn. Born in 1945, he was raised in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Deacon Greg attended Our Lady of Angels School, Regis High School, and the University of South Carolina. He worked for Zim International Shipping Company for 34 years and at retirement was vice president of the North Atlantic Region.

He was married for 51 years to Maggie McGinty Dixon. In addition to his wife, Greg is survived by his sons Mark, Andrew and Luke, as well as Luke’s wife Hesper and sons Rafe and Bram. His passion was serving as the Deacon at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, Bay Ridge, for over 37 years. He loved the church community and was dedicated to his fellow parishioners.

A funeral Mass was held Thursday, Sept. 23 at St. Andrew the Apostle Church. Burial followed at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn.
