Sister Regina Rosaire Smith, OP, formerly known as Katherine Smith, died May 3, at age 92, in the 71st year of her religious life. She entered the congregation from Sacred Heart parish in East Glendale, N.Y.
Regina ministered in mostly high school education after receiving degrees from St. John’s University and the Catholic University of America in Business Education.
She worked at several missions in her religious career, including St. Pancras Convent, Glendale, N.Y. (1951-1953), St. Dominic Convent, Jamaica, N.Y. (1953-1965), All Saints Convent, Brooklyn (1965-1972), Bethany Convent, Jamaica, (1972-1986), Samaria Prayer Center, Farmingdale, NY (1986-1987), Bethany Convent, (1987-1997), Benincasa Community Water Mill (1997-1999), Bethany Convent (1997-2011), Queen of the Rosary Motherhouse Rosary Hall (2011) and Carlin Hall (2015).
Sister Regina was a vital part of Irish Night for many years. She also volunteered at the motherhouse getting to know everyone and helping wherever she could in her efficient and easygoing manner. Sister Regina is remembered as thoughtful and generous, and truly a community person.
