Sister Dolores Frances Crepeau, CSJ, a Sister of St. Joseph for 55 years, died on Dec. 31, 2023, at St. Joseph Convent, Brentwood, N.Y., at the age of 74. 

Dolores grew up in Holy Cross parish. She attended Holy Cross Elementary School and St. Brendan’s High School. In 1968, Dolores entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, to begin a life dedicated to serving the people of God. 

In the years that followed, Sister Dolores earned a BA in child study/ sociology from St. Joseph College, an MS and PD in counseling from Fordham University and certification in many fields, including counseling and administration, to address the concerns of the young people she would meet in the future. 

In 1973, Sister Dolores was assigned to teach religion and science at St. Francis Xavier Elementary School in Brooklyn. 

This was the beginning of a relationship with the people of the parish that lasted 50 years, including 45 years as a catechist, where she made the Gospel come alive for the fourth graders in the faith formation program. 

Sister Dolores joined her life of prayer with everyday events and went out of her way to help all she met. 

Students at St. Augustine-St. Francis Xavier, Brooklyn; Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Brooklyn; Bishop Kearney High School, Brooklyn; St. Michael Academy, New York; LaSalle Academy, New York; and Cristo Rey, Brooklyn, benefitted from her guidance. As principal at St. Thomas Aquinas, Brooklyn; Fontbonne Hall Academy, Brooklyn; and Our Lady of Guadalupe School, Brooklyn, Dolores created an atmosphere of strict but fair in meeting with students, faculty, and parents. 

Rev. Frank Tumino, pastor of St. Augustine-St. Francis Xavier, celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Xavier Church on Jan. 6. 

Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood, NY.


Florence C. Maloney, Ed.D, age 97, of Auburndale, Queens, NY passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024.

Predeceased by her parents David and Catherine Maloney; her beloved sisters Mary C. McDermott and Catherine Molloy and brother-in-laws, John W. McDermott and Joseph P. Molloy.

Florence lovingly leaves behind her two nephews, John D. McDermott (Kathy) and Joseph T. Molloy (Christine) and four nieces Marijane Hammer (Jim), Terry Boylan (Bob), Catherine Murphy (Bill) and Claire Sorice (John). Also nine grand nieces and nephews and ten great nieces and nephews.

Florence led a life of service to the educational community for over forty years; the Catholic community, being the recipient of the Lincoln Dinner Harvey Moder Lifetime Achievement Award, the Republican and Conservative Parties and to her country as a teacher, a leader and inspiration to all.

Her service includes High School Teacher, Department Chairwoman, Junior High School Assistant Principal, Elementary School Principal, District Curriculum Supervisor and Professor; Department of O”ce Technology, City University of New York.

After retirement from the academic community, she initiated the joint parish Respect for Life Committee that joined sixteen parishes in Queens, NY; Rachel’s Helpers, the Legion of Mary and involved herself in all aspects of parish life.

She was an inductee of the Pro-Life Hall of Fame, Diocese of Brooklyn.

Reposed at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes, 4839 Nesconset Highway, Port Ješerson Station, NY 11776 on Sunday, February 4, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, February 5, 2024 at 10 AM at St. Gerard Majella R.C. Church, 300 Terryville, Port Ješerson Station, NY 11776. Interment followed at Mount Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Flushing, NY.
