Sister Barbara Anne Mullen, O.P., a Sister of St. Dominic, Amityville, L.I., for 58 years, died Jan. 16. She was 76.

Baptized at Holy Cross parish, Flatbush, she attended Bishop McDonnell M.H.S., Crown Heights, before entering the congregation on Sept. 10, 1955.

She received the habit with the religious name Sister Gilbert Marie. On Aug. 8, she pronounced her religious vows.

She taught at St. Pancras School, Glendale, 1957-66; taught eighth grade at St. Frances de Chantal, Borough Park, 1966-74; and served as a librarian at Cathedral Prep Seminary, Brooklyn, 1974-82, using the master’s degree she had earned in library science from Pratt Institute, Clinton Hill.

She went on to get a certificate in pastoral counseling and worked in the Religious Consultation Center with Father Jim Sullivan in 1982.

Her last ministry was as pastoral associate at St. Catharine of Alexandria, Borough Park, from 1983 to 2011 when she retired.

Poor health necessitated a move to Carlin Hall, Amityville, in 2012.

Survivors include her sister Patricia Mullen Peters and brother Jim.

 A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Albert’s Chapel, Amityville, Jan. 21. Interment in the Sisters’ Cemetery followed.

Eileen McDermott Ott of Osprey Point, Ocean View, N.J., wife of the late Deacon Frank J. Ott, died Dec. 30. She was 90.

A graduate of St. Joseph’s College, Clinton Hill, she earned her master’s degree at New York University. A high school teacher for many years, Ott concluded her career teaching first grade at Our Lady of Hope School, Middle Village.

A longtime parishioner at Resurrection-Ascension, Rego Park, she served as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion as well as in consolation and homeless ministries for over 30 years. She relocated to Ocean View seven years ago.

Predeceased by her husband and son Stephen, she is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Reemmer of Upper Township, N.J., and Patty Scharbach of Middle Village; her son Michael of Ocean View; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated Jan. 4. Burial followed in St. John’s Cemetery, Middle Village.
