Brother Joseph
Brother Joseph

Brother Joseph Bouchard, S.C., a member of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart for 74 years, died on Nov. 18 at home in the East Elmhurst Queens Brothers’ Residence.

He entered the community in 1937 from Biddeford, Maine, and completed his formation in Victoriaville, Quebec, Canada.

He received academic degrees in education and English from the University of Montreal and St. Michael’s College in Winooski, Vt. He received a doctorate in educational administration from New York University and was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for service to Catholic education.

He served as provincial superior in the Province of Rimouski (Canada) and as the regional superior of the District of Australia.

After 33 years in Australia, New Caledonia and Vanuatu, Brother Joseph became a member of the New York Province and was assigned to Msgr. McClancy M.H.S., East Elmhurst.

Brother Joseph also served as province archivist, a role he exercised until his death.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Nov. 22 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, East Elmhurst, with interment in the Brothers’ Cemetery in Metuchen, N.J.

 

Sister Moira
Sister Moira

Sister Moira Murray, I.H.M., (formerly known as Sister Mary Owen) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Nov. 24 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton, Pa. She was 84.

Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and given the name Mary Anna Patricia, she entered the I.H.M. congregation in 1948 and made her final profession of vows in 1954.

Her only teaching assignment in the Brooklyn Diocese was at St. Ephrem, Dyker Heights, 1975-77.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Reverend Seamus, C.S.Sp.

She is survived by two sisters, Eileen Ward and Ann both of Belfast.

Burial was at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pa.
