For the second straight season, Archbishop Molloy H.S., Briarwood, graduate Mike Baxter will open the season on the New York Mets’ 25-man roster.

Baxter will serve as a reserve outfielder for the team and will be a left-handed bat for manager Terry Collins to use off the bench.

If Baxter gets hot, he could find himself in a right-field platoon with the newly-acquired Marlon Byrd.

Last season, Baxter hit .263 in 89 games while hitting three home runs and driving in 17 runs.

His season highlight was making the game-saving catch in the seventh inning of Johan Santana’s no-hitter – the first in franchise history.

The Mets open their season on April 1 at Citi Field, Flushing. First pitch is schedule for 1:10 p.m.
