Four diocesan priests and one member of a religious order are observing their 60th anniversary of ordination.

Father Robert E. Cheesman, C.Ss.R., was ordained for the Redemptorists on June 23, 1957. He lives at Our Lady of Perpetual Help rectory, Sunset Park.

The four diocesan priests all were ordained June 1, 1957 by Auxiliary Bishop John J. Boardman at St. James Pro-Cathedral, Downtown Brooklyn.

Msgr. Conrad R. Dietz, a senior priest at the Bishop Mugavero Residence in Douglaston, was a member of the faculty at Cathedral College, Brooklyn, 1958-67 and Cathedral College, Douglaston, 1967-88. He also was an adjunct professor at the Cathedral House of Formation in Douglaston.

 

 

Father Cyril F.J. Doody, a senior priest who resides in Sag Harbor, L.I., served as an assistant at St. Thomas Aquinas, Park Slope, 1957-61; and then St. Margaret, Middle Village, 1961-65, before being assigned to the faculty of Cathedral Prep, Elmhurst, 1965-67.

He also served at Resurrection-Ascension, Rego Park, 1969-78; Blessed Sacrament, Jackson Heights, 1978-80; St. Kevin, Flushing, 1980-87; St. Robert Bellarmine, Bayside, 1987-93; and Sacred Heart, Bayside, 1993-98.

Msgr. William J. Flood, a senior priest at Bishop Mugavero Residence, Douglaston, was pastor at Our Lady of Grace, Howard Beach, 1995-2008, and at St. Vincent de Paul, Williamsburg, 1976-82.

He also served as an assistant at St. Brigid, Bushwick, 1957-62, before being appointed to the faculty of Cathedral Prep, Brooklyn, where he taught until 1977. He also was the administrator of St. James Pro-Cathedral, Downtown Brooklyn, 1971-76.

From 1982 to 1986, he served as an Episcopal Vicar.

Msgr. Joseph C. Mulqueen, a senior priest who resides at St. Mary’s, Long Island City, is the former pastor of St. Pius V, Jamaica, 1988-94.

He was an assistant at Our Lady of the Angelus, Rego Park, 1957-61, and St. Bonaventure, Jamaica, 1961-67, before serving the next 20 years as a chaplain in the U.S. Navy, with tours in the Philippines, Guam, Vietnam, California and Washington, D.C.

From 1994 to 2003, he served at the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington, D.C., and the Holy See’s Mission to the United Nations. He also serves on the Diocesan Tribunal.

He will offer a Mass of thanksgiving at St. Mary’s Church, on Pentecost Sunday, June 4, at 9:30 a.m., followed by coffee and cake in St. Mary’s Hall.
