Marist Jubilees

Two Marist Brothers with connections to the Brooklyn Diocese are marking anniversaries.

Brother Gerard (Jogues) Cormier, F.M.S., is celebrating his 70th year as a religious.

Born in Sommerville, Mass., he entered the Marist Brothers Novitiate, Lowell, Mass. in 1943. He taught at St. Ann’s Academy (now Archbishop Molloy H.S.) and then at Cardinal Hayes H.S., Bronx. He also served as director of the Marist Brothers hospitality house in Bellport, L.I.

An accomplished artist, he has won many awards for his Long Island seascape paintings.

He graduated from Marist College, Poughkeepsie, and also attended St. Michael’s College, Colchester, Vt.

He is retired and volunteers in the Art Department at Archbishop Molloy H.S., Briarwood. He resides at a Marist Brothers community in Flushing.

Brother James

Brother James Maher, F.M.S., is celebrating his 60th anniversary.

Born in N.Y.C., he entered the Marist Brothers Novitiate, Tyngsboro, Mass., in 1953.

He was a teacher and counselor at St. Helena’s H.S. in the Bronx, and is currently teaching at Archbishop Molloy H.S., where he previously served as principal and assistant principal.

He received a bachelor’s degree in English from Marist College, a master’s degree in English from St. John’s University, Jamaica, and a master’s degree in guidance.

He resides at a Marist Brothers community in Flushing.
