Fathers Patrick J. Tonry, S.M., who resides in Philadelphia, is a native of the diocese. He was ordained 50 years ago on April 3, 1965, in Fribourg, Switzerland.

Born in Brooklyn, he attended elementary school at St. Clement Pope, Jamaica, and professed first vows on Sept. 5, 1952, in Marcy, N.Y.

He has taught at high schools run by the Marianists, including Chaminade H.S. in Mineola, L.I.

“My vocation has its roots in my family, which was deeply steeped in faith and in a strong love for the Blessed Virgin Mary,” said Father Tonry.

“I have been blessed to do ministry as an ordained Marianist in many places and now serve as spiritual director of the Marianist Mission that seeks funds for our ministries in Africa, India and Mexico, and for our brothers in formation and in retirement.”

Father Paul J. Landolfi, S.M., is marking his 60th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood. He was ordained July 17, 1955, at Fribourg, Switzerland.

He was born and raised in Brooklyn, where he resided at the St. John’s Home for Boys. He attended St. John’s elementary and high school, Alexander Hamilton Vocational and Technical H.S., Brooklyn, before moving to Dayton, Ohio, to complete high school at Mount St. John.

He professed first vows on Aug. 20, 1944, in Dayton.

From his first assignment as a Marianist brother, he has served Marianist lay groups and currently serves one of the oldest sodalities in the Marianist Province, the Sodality of Our Lady of the Pillar in Mineola.

Currently, he resides at the Mineola Marianist Community.

“Before I went to the seminary in Fribourg, Switzerland, my confessor advised: ‘One thing is very important – getting to know and love Jesus.’ I have tried to remember that,” said Father Landolfi.
