Local Students Needed More Than Prayer To Win Diocesan Religion Bee

Over 600 students in grades three through eight in religious education programs, Catholic schools and academies in Brooklyn and Queens participated in the Second Diocesan Religion Bee.

The finals were held last month at the Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston, after school and local area contests were held. The questions dealt with prayer, the sacraments and the liturgy. Auxiliary Bishop James Massa presented the winners with their awards. Anna Ferraiuolo represented Sadlier, Inc., the chief sponsor of the religion bee. The diocesan winners were:

Parish Religious Education Programs (Grades Three to Five)

First Place – Samantha Gonzalez, St. Martin of Tours-Our Lady of Lourdes, Bushwick
Second Place – Nicole Sanchez, St. Martin of Tours-Our Lady of Lourdes
Third Place – Sandra Sandoval, Incarnation, Queens Village
Honorable Mention – Gabrielle Angel, St. Michael, Flushing
