LI Priest Opens Holy Year with 55-Mile Walk

Father Anthony Stanganelli, pastor of St. Brigid Church in Westbury, L.I., makes a visit to the Blessed Sacrament at St. James Cathedral-Basilica, Downtown Brooklyn, on Dec. 9. Father Stanganelli was on the second day of a two-day walking pilgrimage during which he visited 50 churches in the Dioceses of Rockville Centre, and Brooklyn, and the Archdiocese of New York.

The priest, marking the Year of Mercy with his 55-mile journey, prayed for the intentions of his parishioners and Facebook friends along the way. At lower left, he is greeted by Father Peter Purpura, rector of St. James who was decorating the church when he arrived. Above, Father Stanganelli is seen walking across the Manhattan Bridge from Brooklyn.
