Jon Severe Signs with Fordham University

Though maybe it wasn’t as hyped as the epic LeBron James “decision” to join the Miami Heat in the summer of 2010, Christ the King R.H.S., Middle Village, senior basketball guard Jon Severe has finally made his college decision.

He will be staying right here in New York City as he chose to play this fall for the Fordham University, the Bronx, Rams.

The decision was made on April 24 at a press conference at the school. Severe made plenty of great memories in Fordham’s Rose Hill Gymnasium during his high school tenure, and now that will be his home court.

Severe averaged 22.5 pts. per game his senior season and led the Royals to a N.Y.S. Federation title. The team also captured three Class ‘AA’ city championships in his four years.

For his efforts, Severe was named Mr. Basketball New York City – the first Royal to win the prestigious award in the school’s vibrant basketball history, which has included NBA stars such as Lamar Odom, Jayson Williams and Speedy Claxton.

Royals’ senior point guard Malik Harmon also signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at St. Francis University, Loretto, Pa. He had previously committed there but made it official during the press conference.

Coincidentally, Severe and Harmon will square off against each other with their new teams on opening night next fall as Fordham takes on St. Francis.

On the Lady Royals’ side, senior forward Taylor Butigian signed on to play basketball for Wagner College, Staten Island. She’s pictured below in the middle surrounded by her teammates and family members.
