FDNY Capt. Timothy Stackpole Award – FF. Vincent O’Grady

FDNY CAPTAIN TIMOTHY STACKPOLE MEMORIAL AWARD
Presented in memory of FDNY Captain Timothy Stackpole, who was an inspiration to his fellow firefighters when he returned to active duty after a long and painful recovery from third-degree burns that he suffered in the line of duty. After that return to duty, Capt. Stackpole was one of the 343 fallen Bravest on Sept. 11, 2001.

FDNY Firefighter Vincent O’Grady is receiving the Captain Timothy Stackpole Memorial Award.
A second-generation Irish-American, O’Grady is the oldest of four boys – Richie, Brian and Sean, born to Mary and Richie O’Grady, who trace their roots to Belfast and County Down in Northern Ireland.
Raised in St. Thomas Aquinas parish, Flatlands, he graduated from the parish school and Xavier H.S., Manhattan, where he played football and rugby. His football career continued at St. John’s University, Jamaica.
Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Firefighter Raymond O’Toole, who worked in Engine 249, and his father, Captain Richard O’Grady, who worked in Engine 220, he became a firefighter on Oct. 15, 1995.
For the last 15 years, he has worked at Ladder 132 in Crown Heights. He is proud to wear the uniform along with his younger brothers, Brian and Sean, who work in Ladder 174 and Ladder 147, respectively.
FF. O’Grady currently belongs to the FDNY Holy Name Society and the Emerald Society.
A former member of the fire department football team, he has hung up his spikes but still volunteers in his community as a coach with the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), Brooklyn Hurricanes and Timothy Stackpole Foundation.
These organizations assisted in his athletic development and, more importantly, instilled the value of teamwork – both on and off the field. He has been a player, teammate, father and coach within the CYO and the Brooklyn Hurricanes and has derived the most joy from seeing his own children participate in these organizations.
FF. O’Grady and his wife of 20 years, Kerry, reside in Marine Park and attend Good Shepherd parish. Both products of Catholic education, they are proud that they have given a Catholic education to their son Patrick, an alumnus of Xavier H.S., who currently attends SUNY Cortland, and their daughters, Kailey and Kristin, both students at Bishop Kearney H.S., Bensonhurst. All three children are graduates of Good Shepherd School.
