The food pantry at St. Jude, Canarsie, is growing to keep up with its community’s needs. Every month, the pantry asks for specific items to fill the shelves.
During July, those items are milk (powdered/shelf stable), cereal, pancake mix and canned fruit. Even the smallest donation can help feed a hungry neighbor.

St. Joseph’s College (SJC) alumni from the Rockaways, Breezy and Belle Harbor will have a chance to meet up and reconnect at the Aug. 10 kickoff reception for SJC’s new Breezy/Rockaway Alumni Chapter.

For the third straight year, the Fire Department will hold a series of block party community events at firehouses and EMS stations in all five boroughs throughout the summer.
At each event, FDNY members will hold demonstrations, offer free fire and life safety education and conduct tours of FDNY apparatus. Children can meet the FDNY Fire and Life Safety Mascots: Hot Dog and Siren. The summer block parties are made possible by support from the FDNY Foundation.
The Brooklyn block party will take place on Saturday, July 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Engine Company 290/Ladder Company 103, located at 480 Sheffield Ave., East New York.

Natural Family Planning (NFP) Awareness Week is July 23-29, and this year’s theme is: “It’s Time! Say ‘Yes’ to God’s Plan for Married Love.”
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops offers resources on NFP, including information on the theology behind it, prayers, personal stories, websites and links that provide married couples with the assistance they need – even an app to track fertility cycles – to grow or maintain their family size while respecting God’s design for married love. Holy Child Jesus in Richmond Hill is celebrating its 100 years of Catholic education with a homecoming celebration for alumni and friends on Sept. 16, 2017. The event is being held at Holy Child Jesus, and will include a Memorial Garden dedication; an alumni Mass and a reception on the parish grounds. Tickets are $75, adults only, and include dinner, music, beer and wine.
