St. Andrew Avellino Academy, Flushing, in conjunction with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, conducted their 16th turkey distribution. With the help of Paul Halvatzis, turkey committee chairman, more than $4,000 was raised from local businesses and individuals. This money was then used to feed more than 100 needy families. Some of the turkeys and food were allotted to QSAC, a local non-profit that provides services to autistic individuals. Debora Hanna, principal and Mary Ann Dorsa, school administrator, were instrumental in organizing the distribution. Father Joseph Holcomb, pastor, was very pleased with how everything went and was very happy the parish could help make a difference. The children of St. Andrew’s helped by sponsoring a canned goods drive that provided hundreds of pounds of food. In the photo, Father Holcomb is joined by the volunteers, along with Mary Ann Dorsa, Councilman Paul Vallone, Debora Hanna and Paul Halvatzis.
