Ghanaian Priest Remembered For Ministry in Dyker Heights

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Father Andrew K. Soley, C.S.Sp., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Dyker Heights, Jan. 7.

Father Soley, a priest of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, Province of Ghana, was ministering as a parochial vicar at Our Lady of Guadalupe. He died Jan. 2 at Maimonides Medical Center in  Borough Park. He was 66.

Father Soley was ordained to the priesthood on July 23, 1994. He served in the Brooklyn Diocese as a summer assistant before being assigned to Our Lady of Guadalupe parish eight years ago.

Retired Auxiliary Bishop Guy Sansaricq was the main celebrant of the funeral Mass. Msgr. Robert Romano, pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe was among the concelebrants.

“Father Andrew was a private man but did a great deal of work for so many people,” Msgr. Romano said. “At his wake so many people came up to me and told me of all the wonderful things he had done for them over the years.

“He was always happy to help. People loved his presence and he will be greatly missed.”

He is survived by his sister Mary Kumi in Ghana.

Burial was at Holy Ghost Preparatory School, Bensalem, Pa.
