Free Winter Tennis Training Clinic

From the Mayotte Hurst Tennis Academy

As Long Island middle school and high school girls tennis players conclude their fall seasons and PSAL players prepare for the spring season, former Top 10 ATP Tour player and Olympic Silver medalist, Tim Mayotte of the Mayotte Hurst Tennis Academy at Cunningham Sports Center in Fresh Meadows, N.Y is offering them a free winter training clinic on Saturday Nov. 2 from 4-6 p.m.  For more information visit www.cunninghamtenniscenter.com or call 718-740-6800.

Mayotte-HurstThe free clinic  is open to all girls (ages 11-17) who played middle school or high school tennis this fall for a Long Island public or parochial school or last spring for a PSAL school.  It will offer personalized training tips plus on and off-court winter training drills from the team of teaching professionals of the Mayotte Hurst Tennis Academy.  Players are encouraged to wear their school tennis shirts.  Parents and coaches are also invited to attend the clinic for a presentation about their role in the development and training of aspiring young players.

“We applaud the thousands of young ladies who are competing for their schools and want to celebrate their success and help them improve,” says Mayotte, a Wimbledon and Australian Open semifinalist who reached as high as No. 7 in the world in 1988.  “We hope they will join us to learn something new and help take their game to the next level.”

With the combined talents of Mayotte, Lee Hurst, Dominick Mabouti and the other top coaches, the Mayotte Hurst Tennis Academy is built upon developing four areas of the player; mental, technical, tactical and fitness.  The training methodology is focused on the intention of practices, rather than the number of balls hit. It emphasizes small group practices in which players work together, towards their goals. And, unlike many training centers, the top coaches are on court every day with the players, offering clinics, instruction and private lessons.

A native of Springfield, MA, Mayotte burst upon the pro tennis scene in 1981 when he captured the NCAA Men’s Singles title at Stanford University.  During an impressive career “Gentleman Tim” captured 12 ATP singles titles from 1981-90, with nine of them coming in 1987-88.  He defeated Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras during his career.

The Cunningham Sports Center offers 10 championship hard courts that are bubbled from October through April, for year-round play. Currently, the Mayotte Hurst Tennis Academy offers school programming and is enrolling students for a home-school program that will start in the spring.  The Cunningham Sports Center is located near the junction of the Clearview Expressway and the Grand Center Parkway in Fresh Meadows, Queens, N.Y., and is easily accessible by public transportation.  For more information visitwww.cunninghamtenniscenter.com.
