Chaz Williams, a red-shirt senior point guard for the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Mass., has led the Minutemen to a 17-2 start through the team’s first 19 games.

Williams is a graduate of Bishop Ford H.S., Park Slope, and was the captain of the varsity boys’ team that won the school’s only N.Y.C. championship in 2008.

The five-foot, nine-inch guard has started all 19 games for UMass and leads the team in scoring at 15.9 pts. per game and assists at 7.4 per game.

His three-point shooting has been off the charts, as he’s connected on 42.4 percent of his attempts from downtown.

Prior to the start of the season, Williams was named as one of 50 players on the early season watch list for the Naismith College Player of the Year. He also appeared on the Bob Cousy Award watch list for the nation’s top collegiate point guard.

After 19 games, the Minutemen held the No. 13 ranking among Division I men’s college basketball teams.
