Step back into childhood and experience the magic of the toys of yesteryear this month.
The Queens Historical Society is hosting the exhibition, “Toys & Games From the Attic and Beyond!” at the Kingsland Homestead in Flushing, now through July 16.
Discover the history and importance of dozens of playthings and collectibles – everything from an antique Chinese pinball game to a Star Wars collection to the Queens-born Fantastic Mr. Machine.
Among the items on display is a century-old toy steam engine that belongs to Msgr. Michael J. Brennan, in residence at St. Andrew Avellino parish, Flushing. The engine belonged to his father.
Joseph Brostek, a parishioner at St. Andrew, is curating the exhibit, which includes many display pieces from St. Andrew’s parishioners.
In addition to seeing various toys, such as Barbie, Lionel trains, Hess trucks, Rubik’s Cube, Beanie Babies, POGs, Matchbox Cars, Frisbees and LEGOs, visitors may also see an art gallery setting with framed information about these classic toys – and cast ballots for their favorites.

Thank you so much for this piece.
(Very nicely prepared.)
I know it will help attendance at this wonderful cultural institution.
Monsignor Brennan and the SAA folks who have items in the display will also
be very appreciative!
Joe Brostek, QHS Trustee
Thank you for providing such an enjoyable exhibit!
It was beautifully presented, and provided a “trip down memory lane” for the old and captivated the imagination of the young. What more could you ask for?
Kudos to the team at QHS!
