Flag Wavin’ in B’klyn (with slideshow)

13th Avenue in Bensonhurst was draped in red, white and blue and star-spangled banners as the Long Island Council of the Knights of Columbus conducted its annual Independence Day Parade on June 29. The host council was Archbishop John Hughes, where post-parade ceremonies were held. Rick Kenney was the Grand Marshal. Msgr. Jamie Gigantiello, pastor of St. Bernard’s, Mill Basin, and the diocese’s Vicar for Development, was the recipient of the Knights’ Pro Patria (For God and Country) Award. Bottom left, State Sen. Martin Golden poses with local firefighters along the parade route. Bottom right, City Council member Vincent Gentile waves from a vintage fire engine.
