Father Vivona, 87, Served 60 Years in the Priesthood

OBIT_FrAFVivonaA Mass of Christian Burial for Father Anthony F. Vivona was celebrated April 3 in the chapel at St. John’s Cemetery, Middle Village. He died March 31 at Beth Israel Hospital. He was 87 years old and celebrated the 60th anniversary of his ordination in February.

Auxiliary Bishop Raymond Chappetto was the main celebrant of the funeral Mass. Father Walter A. Mitchell preached the homily.

Father Vivona attended P.S. 118; Andrew Jackson H.S.; New York School of Music and Art; the Montfort Prep Seminary, Bayshore, L.I.; and St. Louis de Montfort Seminary, Litchfield, Conn.

He was ordained for the Montfort Fathers on Feb. 28, 1953.

He served as an assistant at St. Mary Gate of Heaven Church, Ozone Park, 1963-68; Our Lady of Miracles, Canarsie, 1968-79; and Holy Family, Flatlands, 1979-1996.

He was incardinated into the Brooklyn Diocese in 1971.

Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery.
