Boomers & Beyond – April 2018

Do Your Part During Volunteer Month

(SPM Wire) — April is National Volunteer Month and a great time of year to roll up your sleeves and get active in your community. Here are a few ways to do your part:

• Collect Used Books
Local libraries can always use more books and most households have at least a few they don’t need or want anymore. Make it easy for friends, family and coworkers and neighbors to donate their used books to a good cause by organizing a book drive at your workplace, church or community center.

• Donate Blood
You don’t have to wait until the next blood drive to donate, as many hospitals and non-profits collect blood at centers year-round. Call ahead to ensure you meet the requirements and take some time to potentially save a life with your donation.

• Take A Walk
Did you know that many animal shelters are in need of volunteers to spend time with pets? From walking dogs to feeding newborn kittens to manning mobile adoption events, you can help improve the lives of animals that have not yet been adopted.
