A Mass of Christian Burial for Deacon Ramon Genaro Diaz, 74, was celebrated on Saturday, May 23, at the Immaculate Conception Monastery Church, Jamaica Estates, where he had served since his ordination in 2002. He died at his home on Wednesday, May 20.

Father Thomas Pettei, Episcopal Vicar of Queens, was the celebrant of the funeral Mass.

Father Theophane Cooney, C.P., preached the homily.

He was ordained as a permanent deacon by Bishop Thomas V. Daily on April 20, 2002, at St. James Cathedral-Basilica, Downtown Brooklyn.

Born in the Dominican Republic, Deacon Diaz attended St. Tomas Seminary in the Dominican Republic, and Queens College.

He is survived by his wife, Melida.

Burial was in Mount St. Mary Cemetery, Flushing.
