On the final weekend of National Breast Cancer Awareness month, a few local Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) sports teams showed their support for breast cancer. Above, the girls’ basketball players and coaches of St. Adalbert’s, Elmhurst, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Astoria, as well as CYO director Rob Caldera, far left, wore pink during their regular season game. Below, members of the St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr, Ozone Park, CYO basketball program were out in front of church during the weekend’s Sunday Masses to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer. The young athletes sold “Battle against Breast Cancer” T-shirts to support the cause. Parish CYO athletic director Joe Bode praised the families for the great effort. “We may be a small program,” Bode said, “but we have tremendous heart and spirit!”
