Chaplain’s Prayer for Det. Wenjian Liu

The following is the complete text of the prayer offered by NYPD chaplain Msgr. Robert Romano at the funeral service for NYPD Det. Wenjian Liu, on Jan. 4 at Aievoli Funeral Home in Bensonhurst:

There is a Buddhist saying…… When you are born, you cry, and the world rejoices.

When you die, you rejoice, and the world cries.

Let us pray:

Heavenly God we come together today to say goodbye to our Brother Detective first grade Wenjian Liu. Our hearts are broken, our eyes filled with tears and our lives are changed. We thank you for having had the joy of knowing and loving Wenjian. His time here on earth, while too short, has been a true blessing to all who knew him.

Wenjian and his partner Det Rafael Ramos were and are our heroes. They will be missed but their memories will live on in the history of this city, this Police Department and their families.

Gracious and loving God we ask you to shine your rays of love upon Wenjian. Give to him eternal life and the fulfillment of all his dreams and desires with you. Give consolation to his loving wife and devoted parents, to his family, and his fellow officers especially the 84 Pct. Help them with their grief and pain, dry their tears and support them with your continual love.

AMEN!
