‘New York Welcomes Pietà’

Fifty-seven years ago, Michelangelo’s Pietà arrived in New York for display at the New York World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows. It was the first, and perhaps only, time that the prized sculpture left Vatican City, and the Diocese of Brooklyn was proud to be its home for 18 months.

Msgr. Kieran Harrington Named Director of the National Pontifical Mission Societies

Msgr. Kieran Harrington of the Diocese of Brooklyn has been named the new national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies. Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, prefect of the Vatican Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples made the appointment. Msgr. Harrington will succeed Father Andrew Small, OMI, who is completing his second five-year term.
