Brother Raymond

Brother Raymond Miklich, SM, died on May 9, in Dayton, Ohio. He was 88 and had been a member of the Society of Mary (Marianists) for 66 years.

He served for 54 years at St. John’s Residence for Boys in Rockaway Park, where he ministered to disadvantaged and troubled youth. He also served at schools in Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico.

Born in Cleveland, after high school, he served in the United States Army and spent part of his enlistment in Korea in the lead-up to the Korean War.

He entered the Marianist novitiate in Marcy, N.Y., and professed first vows in 1950.

After studies at the University of Dayton in Ohio, teaching school in Washington, D.C., for one year, he began his service at St. John’s Residence for Boys. He professed perpetual vows in 1956.

In 1964, after a decade as prefect, counselor and teacher at St. John’s, he spent a year serving at a Marianist school in Puerto Rico. He returned to the Rockaway Park home for boys and served though his early 80s as a counselor, maintenance assistant and athletics program manager.

In 2013, he moved to a Marianist healthcare community in Dayton.

He was interred at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, at Mount Saint John, Dayton.
