Brooklynite Chosen as General Superior

Mother Maria Catherine

Sister Maria Catherine Iannotti, P.V.M.I., was elected General Superior of the Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate June 19 at Marycrest, the Congregation’s motherhouse, in Monroe, N.Y.

Born in Brooklyn, Mother Maria Catherine attended Our Lady of Lourdes School, Bushwick, and St. Michael’s H.S., East New York.

She previously served as vocation director, 1987-90; first formation director at the Sisters’ convent in Nigeria, 1991-96; superior of the infirmary at Marycrest 2002-05; superior and postulant director at convents in Rome, N.Y., 2005-07, and Scranton, Pa., 2007-08; novice director at Marycrest, 2008-present; postulant director, 2009-present; and juniorate director 2013- present.

In 2013, she became Vice Postulator for the Cause of Beatification and Canonization of Servant of God Mary Teresa Tallon, foundress of the Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate.

She also served on the General Council, an advisory board to the General Superior.

She received her bachelor’s degree in theology from St. John’s University, Jamaica, with a minor in social work. Her master’s in religious studies is from Notre Dame Catechetical Institute, Arlington, Va. She was also awarded a Pontifical Catechetical Diploma.
