Ash Wednesday Celebrated Throughout the Diocese

Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio and Father Peter Purpura were the celebrants of the Ash Wednesday noontime Mass at St. James Cathedral-Basilica, Downtown Brooklyn.
Father Kevin Sweeney, pastor of St. Michael’s parish, Sunset Park, distributed ashes to parishioners at his Brooklyn church.
After distributing ashes at St. Michael’s Church, Sunset Park, seminarian Brendon Harfmann brought the sacramental to the staff and patients at Calvary Hospital, at NYU-Lutheran Hospital Center in Sunset Park.
Msgr. Jamie Gigantiello, pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish, Williamsburg, distributed ashes to the staff at Giando’s-on-the-Water, a popular restaurant near his church.
