Sister Ellen Smith, I.H.M., formerly known as Sister Marie Ellen, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died Aug. 11, at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton, Pa. She was 81.

She entered her religious congregation in Immaculata, Pa., in 1955, and made her final profession of vows in 1962. She joined the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Congregation in Scranton in 1982.

In the Brooklyn Diocese, she served as principal of St. Ephrem School, Dyker Heights, 1989-93. She also served on the IHM Congregation Leadership Team in Scranton as councilor for Missioning and Community Life from 1998 to 2002.

Interment will be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pa.
