Sister Madeleine Merritt, I.H.M., a member for 69 years of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died June 25 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton, Pa. She was 87.

Born in Providence, R.I., as Margaret Edna, she entered the congregation in 1947, and made her final profession of vows in 1953.

Her only assignment in the Brooklyn Diocese was as a teacher at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School, Forest Hills, 1975-80.

From 2015 until the time of her death, she served as a prayer minister at Our Lady of Peace Residence.

Burial was at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pa.
