Letters to the Editor

Thank You, Sister Margaret Mary

Dear Editor: I have just read (May 14) of the much too early death of Sister Margaret Mary Caulson. I knew her as Sister Mary Ronan, I.H.M. She was my eighth grade teacher, 1968-69, at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School in Forest Hills.

At a time when I felt lost and alone, Sister saw everything, said nothing and did something. She provided me with much appreciated, attentive guidance and affectionate support. I will never forget her telling the class of the latest archeological findings concerning the Crown of Thorns. I also fondly recall her referring to the Bob Hope specials as “rather risque.”

Of course, I had a crush on her. About 10 years ago, I tracked her down on Long Island and personally thanked her for all she had done and been for me. Next year, God willing, I will be ordained a permanent deacon for the Diocese of Brooklyn. At my thanksgiving Mass at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, I will joyfully thank God, who blessed me by this woman, who covered me in the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
