Sister Patricia Clare Barry, O.P., (Sister M. Francis Magdalen), 84, a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic, Amityville, L.I., for 64 years, died March 28.
Born in Brooklyn, she entered the novitiate in 1951 from St. Patrick’s parish, Bay Ridge, and received her Dominican habit one year later.
She taught at St. Frances Cabrini, Bath Beach; Holy Redeemer, Freeport; Our Lady of Lourdes, Malverne, L.I.; Cure of Ars, Merrick, L.I.,; Corpus Christi, Woodside; St. Mary Star of the Sea, Carroll Gardens, where she was principal for a year; Our Lady of Solace, Coney Island; St. Boniface, Elmont, L.I; and Sacred Heart, East Glendale.
She earned a master’s in social science at the CUNY Richmond College, Staten Island. Subsequently, she received her master of divinity degree from Seton Hall University, N.J. She then served as the director of religious education at Notre Dame parish, New Hyde Park, L.I., and as pastoral service coordinator in St. Hugh of Lincoln, Huntington Station, L.I.
In 1989, she returned to the classroom at St. Frances Cabrini. Illness necessitated a medical leave in 1996. In 1997, she returned to her educational ministry as a resource staff member at Our Lady of Refuge School, Flatbush. Later, she ministered as a librarian in St. Vincent Ferrer School, East Flatbush.
Poor health required her to move to Carlin Hall at the Motherhouse in Amityville, and later to the Gurwin Jewish Nursing Home in Commack, L.I.
Burial took place at the motherhouse.
