St. Francis Xavier Catholic Academy, a private Catholic school serving the academic and spiritual needs of students from nursery school (3 year olds) through grade eight, opened in 1914 in Park Slope, Brooklyn. In September, 2013, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Academy opened its doors as a newly formed private Catholic academy.
Faculty and staff are committed to providing an environment where children can obtain the necessary skills for success in high school and college. Instruction is delivered through the use of the N.Y.S. Common Core aligned standards. Additional classes include religion, art, computer, physical education, as well as a foreign language and an exciting music program with keyboards and recorders. In order to enhance student learning and delivery of instruction, technology is used daily through the use of classroom SMART Boards, computer tablets and a new state-of-the-art computer lab.
St. Francis Xavier encourages good study habits, leadership qualities and sound decision-making, along with a respect for life within a faith community. The school also has a Young Author’s Writing Workshop program, Stages on the Sound Performing Arts program and introduction to robotic capabilities in the science program. St. Francis Xavier offers Title I reading, math and guidance programs, as well as an Aquinas Honors program for those students who are up to the challenge of an enriched academic curriculum.
In addition to a core curriculum centered in the Catholic faith, St. Francis Xavier has free, supervised, extracurricular, after-school clubs where students can explore their interests. The after-school program is offered, in addition to the weekly clubs, until 5:45 p.m. and is aimed to help working parents. Similarly, St. Francis Xavier also operates an early morning drop-off program five days a week beginning at 7:20 a.m. The school has free Universal Pre-K programs for 4 year olds.
There are monthly assemblies honoring exemplary character traits and “Student of the Month,” educational class trips, prayer services, school liturgies and the opportunity to attend Mass.
