Last weekend was very exciting for the Christ the King R.H.S., Middle Village, basketball program. Saturday featured the girls’ varsity team winning a 62-55 contest over Archbishop Molloy H.S., Briarwood, to capture their first GCHSAA N.Y. state title since 2010.
The following day at Fordham University, the Bronx, the boys’ varsity team, seen at left, outlasted Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge, 59-56 to win the program’s fifth CHSAA N.Y. city championship within the past six years.
Both teams now head to Albany, N.Y., for the state federation tournament. The boys’ city title game was a rematch of the Brooklyn-Queens diocesan championship contest, which also was won by Christ the King.
