Nazareth R.H.S., East Flatbush, senior girls basketball point guard Bianca Cuevas was named as the New York Daily News Brooklyn Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
She averaged 22.1 pts., 3.8 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 4.6 steals per game, which led to her selection as a 2014 McDonald’s All-American. She will play next fall at the University of South Carolina.
Her most memorable game of the season came when she poured in 50 pts. in the GCHSAA semifinal matchup between rival Christ the King R.H.S., Middle Village.
Cuevas’ teammate, senior forward Yazmine Belk, was also named to the first team. She will be heading to Virginia Commonwealth University next fall. Another Nazareth first teamer was senior forward Jennifer Fay, who’s all set to play at Quinnipiac University.
Bishop Loughlin M.H.S., Fort Greene, senior point guard Kiana Clark was named to the NEws’ second team, and Nazareth senior guard Shiclasia Brown and Bishop Kearney H.S., Bensonhurst, senior guard Emily Hiltunen received honorable mentions.
