Celebrating the Diocese’s Bright Future & Insight of Young Catholics

Dear Editor: On the eve of All Saints’ Day, celebrated on Nov. 1, I preached that whereas Moses gave us the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai on how to be good, Jesus, in His “Sermon on the Mount” about the Eight Beatitudes told us how to be holy.

In John’s letter, he said we are God’s children now.

So, I read what four children had written in Tablet Jr. last week about what the Beatitude “being poor in spirit” meant and how to practice it.

They included eighth grader Juan Pedro Correa, who wrote that “rather than placing ourselves above others, we are called to seek God’s guidance and respond to those about us with compassion.”

They also included eighth grader Victoria Costa, who wrote that “being poor in spirit does not mean having no money. It means understanding that possessions cannot replace faith, kindness, or our relationship with God.”

Surely, one can see from their words that they are growing up well.

(Anne Zuschlag, principal of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Academy in Forest Hills) is one of the strongest, most amazing women and leaders I know (“Principal Finds Purpose in Work During Her Breast Cancer Battle”)!

I have been blessed to know her as a supportive parent in her children’s education and now as a principal who demonstrates outstanding leadership for her school and colleagues.

Very proud of our mom, (Anne Zuschlag, principal of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Academy in Forest Hills), who is the best person we know, and our wonderful extended family at OLQMCA (“Principal Finds Purpose in Work During Her Breast Cancer Battle,” Oct. 31).

This is so nice (“Answered Prayers: Queens Pastor’s Mom Forms Group to Ask God to Help Priests”)!

(Our Lady of Victory Parish in Floral Park), prays for priests, too, and did on Oct. 27! We read the names of all of the priests in the Diocese of Rockville Centre. It’s a beautiful blessing.

How Beautiful (“Answered Prayers: Queens Pastor’s Mom Forms Group to Ask God to Help Priests,” June 6). I grew up in Blessed Sacrament Church. What a blessing and definitely something that we need to expand in our communities. I will bring it to my deacon. Thank you for sharing.

Michelle Peralta

One of the best principals in the diocese bringing in a wonderful program to support his students (“Catholic Schools in Brooklyn, Queens Expand Reading Support for Students,” Sunday in the City)! Great job, Mr. Estevez.
