VIDEO: Our Lady of Hope Catholic Academy Teacher Welcomed Back After Breast Cancer Battle
MIDDLE VILLAGE — Students from Our Lady of Hope Catholic Academy in Queens lined the hallways to cheer on Liz Colon, who returned to school just two weeks after surgery, cancer-free.
Students raised close to $8,000 for cancer research in Colon’s honor under the banner “Courage, Hope & Ms. Colon.” Colon’s son, Alexander, and classmates showed their pride for the pre-K teacher who handled chemotherapy with courage.
Our Lady of Hope Principal Kara McCarthy says support like this is what Catholic education is all about.
Colon was set to speak at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Susan G. Komen Greater New York City Race for the Cure on Oct. 24.
