Sister Maureen Morgan, RSM, (formerly Sister Mary Arthur), died on April 3 at Maria Regina Residence in Brentwood, New York.

She was 93.

Daughter of Arthur and Annabelle, she attended the parish school of Holy Innocents and Mercy Juniorate High School, after which she entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1951.

Sister Maureen taught in Holy Rosary, St. Gregory, St. Mary, Roslyn, and St. Patrick, Bay Shore. She was also principal at St. Mary’s in Roslyn for 12 years and principal of St. John Nepomucene in Bohemia, New York, for 10 years.

For the next 11 years until her retirement in 2003, she was director of St. John’s Child Care in Bohemia.
Throughout her many years as an educator in Brooklyn and Long Island, she was a beloved fixture in every parish she served.

As a former pastor recalled, “Beneath all these hats (veil or no veil) there lies … a woman of the Lord for people year after year.”

Sister Maureen is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. John Nepomucene Church in Bohemia, followed by burial at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York.
