Up Front and Personal

We Walk With Hope In Our Hearts

by Nissy Bandar-Zarif

On April 11, during the weekend of Divine Mercy, hundreds of New Yorkers came to “Stand for Life” at the United for Life Walk. If we don’t stand for life, do we stand for death? Hmm.

It’s said that pro-life is a controversial and political subject, but is it? Isn’t life a God-given right? Whose team are we on?

In my mind, there are two teams: pro-life, God’s team, or pro-death, Satan’s team.

We all have the free will to choose.

“See, I have today set before you life and good, death and evil” (Deuteronomy 30:15).

We walk with hope in our hearts that New York can follow the truth and the way and choose life!

Following our walk, Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood director turned national pro-life speaker, came to our Celebrating Life luncheon, held at a packed Connolly’s on 47th Street.

She advised us to work together in New York and to be “a team winning to end abortion, because it’s not about who is doing this best. We are fighting the devil, and we need all hands on deck to fight the devil.”

We should all come together in order to end abortion. Johnson supports United for Life’s mission to unite all pro-life organizations together at our annual walk, Mass, and luncheon, and to make a big splash in the Big Apple.

Here in New York, we should try to grow as big as the March for Life in Washington, D.C., in order to reverse abortion laws.

We need all Catholic schools and colleges to join us, all churches and dioceses from Long Island to New York City to Buffalo, as well as all of the pro-life organizations and pregnancy centers.

One day, I would like to fill the streets of New York, from Midtown to Downtown, with pro-life supporters!

God willing.
