>> Raad Makes It to the Big League

Keith Raad, the voice of the Brooklyn Cyclones for the past five seasons, will join WCBS 880’s radio coverage of the New York Mets this season. A product of Catholic school at Chaminade H.S., Mineola, L.I., Raad is set to split play-by-play and color commentary with longtime Mets radio personality Howie Rose.

>> No Sophomore Jinx

Jose Alvarado, a product of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) at St. Ann’s, Flushing, and Christ the King H.S., Middle Village, played on the NBA Sophomores team during the 2023 Jordan Rising Stars game of the NBA’s All-Star Weekend on Feb. 17 in Salt Lake City.

Originally undrafted after playing college hoops at Georgia Tech, the 6-foot guard from Williamsburg has seen significant minutes in his second year with the New Orleans Pelicans.

He’s averaging 9.3 points and 3.1 assists per game while playing a high-energy style on the court — similar to both his time in the CYO and CHSAA.

>> College Commitment

Mitchell Wiggan, a senior guard on the St. Edmund Prep H.S., Sheepshead Bay, boys’ varsity basketball team, has committed to continue his hoops career at the College of Staten Island. Named to the CHSAA ‘A’ All-League Team as a junior, Wiggan is leading the Eagles in scoring at over 22 points per game this season.

He was also named CHSAA Player of the Week and made the All-Tournament Team at the annual Msgr. King Memorial Basketball Tournament hosted at St. Thomas Aquinas, Flatlands.
