Several local GCHSAA student-athletes will be continuing their basketball careers in college:

+ Skye Owen, St. Francis Prep, Fresh Meadows: Wake Forest University
+ Reyna Scott, Nazareth H.S., East Flatbush: University of Oklahoma
+ Saniyah Glenn, Christ the King H.S., Middle Village: Harvard University
+ Julianna Laguna, Christ the King: Army West Point
Both the men’s and women’s soccer teams from St. John’s University, Jamaica, appeared in this year’s NCAA Tournament.
The women’a team captured first and second round victories over Brown University and Sanford University, respectively. The Red Storm then dropped a third-round match to the bracket’s No. 1 seed Duke University.
On the men’s side, the team opened with a first round victory over Princeton University. The Johnnies then dropped their second-round contest to the bracket’s No. 1 seed Oregon State University.
Meanwhile, the St. Francis College, Brooklyn Heights, men’s soccer team finished as the runner-up for the Northeast Conference championship. The team battled hard against LIU Brooklyn, Downtown Brooklyn, in the championship game. After double overtime knotted at 1-1, the Terriers fell in championship-deciding penalty kicks, 6-5.
